One of this summer’s top enjoyments promises to be the West Fest, in beautiful San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on October 25. According to 2b1 Multimedia, the concert company owned by sax legend Boots Hughston, West Fest is a free event and will feature “Hundreds of San Francisco stars and musical luminaries will perform at this event to commemorate the original principles of Peace, Love and Spirituality. The Woodstock 40th will begin with a blessing by the American Indigenous People and several Beat Generation poets. There will be many speakers from the Peace Movement, the Free Speech Movement and the Anti-War movement along with many of the acts who originally performed at Woodstock (to be announced). The project they had turned down many times when shown to them by others.

Elliot Tiber was immersed in the counterculture and was involved in the gay movement of the era as well as helping orchestrate Woodstock. Tiber helped maintain his parent’s upstate New York motel in the midst of financial troubles. When he learned that Woodstock organizers were stripped of their entertainment permit for the town of Wallkill, NY, he contacted Woodstock organizer Michael Lang. The events that were to follow changed history and defined an entire generation.

Woodstock veteran Country Joe McDonald will host a concert tour featuring original Woodstock bands Canned Heat, Jefferson Starship, Ten Years After, Melanie, The Grateful Dead’s Tom Constanten, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. In addition, Richie Havens may perform at noon on August 14th at Bethel Woods Center For The Arts. WRPI Radio Station Features “Summer of Woodstock” Music (also available online)

From June through August, recordings from the Woodstock festival will air Sunday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. EST on 91.5 FM for audiences in New York’s Capital Region. The program will also be available via live Web stream at http://wrpi.org. Additionally, since some of the artists have not released their full Woodstock performances, a portion of the two-hour program will feature other studio and live recordings from Woodstock artists. The Woodstock 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition of the historical documentary “Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music” will be released on June 9 on Bue-ray and DVD formats. The movie will include two hours of bonus performances, some of which has never been seen by the public. The acts will include five groups who have never appeared on previous releases of the film.

This Woodstock 40th anniversary release will offer an updated format for the film and give enthusiasts the experience of enhanced picture quality and a format that was previously unavailable. The Woodstock 40th anniversary film will also include an hour of bonus material including interviews with Artie Kornfeld, Michael Lang, and Martin Scorsese among others. The Blue-Ray format will also allow users to customize their own Woodstock playlist from the 18 performances featured on the film.

Taking Woodstock (2009)

Taking Woodstock (2009) is scheduled to be released in August 2009. The film is the story of Elliot Tiber, which through a series of fortuitous events helped make the Woodstock vision a reality. Tiber is played by deadpan comic Demetri Martin and directed by Ang Lee. Taking Woodstock is one of the most anticipated rock films of the year and is one of the many releases that Woodstock fans will be looking forward to in celebration of the Woodstock 40th anniversary.

With a cast consisting mainly of comedians, Taking Woodstock is expected to be a light hearted and funny insight into the life of Elliot Tiber as well as the most historical music festival in history. The whirlwind of events which brought Woodstock 1969 to fruition are displayed with warmth and emotion while focusing on an individual who had no idea how large his part in shaping history would be. The movie also stars Leiv Schreiber, Paul Dano, Emile Hirsch, and Eugene Levy.

Organizer of the original festival Michael Lang is also spearheading an operation which will include two concerts to celebrate the achievement. These events promise to be much more eventful than your typical 40th anniversary.

Among the events listed above, a Woodstock 40th anniversary documentary has been planned with VH1 behind the project. The documentary will feature Michael Lang as the executive producer and provide a detailed look into the rock festival from those who were involved. The comprehensive film will cover the festival’s performers, isolated incidents, preparations, and its impact on society. An official date of airing is yet to be determined, but it’s expected to air sometime in August.

The Woodstock 40th Anniversary will be met with dvds and remastered videos as well as Hollywood movies highlighting the process of Woodstock becoming a reality.
